    BJ Printer Driver Printer Driver Basics The printer driver is a program that converts the text or im- age files you created with an application program and then sends the converted data to the printer. After you connect the printer to your computer, you must in- stall the printer driver.

    Make sure that “Canon S4500” is selected in the Printer box as shown. If another printer name is displayed, click the down-arrow and then select “Canon S4500” from the pull-down list. Click the Properties button. The Printer Properties dialogue box opens. Make sure that the “Main”, “Page Layout”, “Stamp/Background”...

    Selecting the Print Mode Before you start a print job, open the Printer Properties dia- logue box and specify the print mode. The print settings in the Printer Properties dialogue box allow fine control over the print quality and colour adjustment, but you can simplify the setup procedure by selecting the icon in which the most appropriate print settings are pre-registered.

    Selecting the print mode After you select the icon, match the BJ Cartridge and Media Type settings with the BJ Cartridges and print media installed in the printer. Open the Printer Properties dialogue box, then click the Main tab. Select the desired icon according to the print job in the Choose Print Mode box. Make sure that the BJ Cartridge and Media Type settings are identical to the BJ Cartridges and print media installed in the printer.

    Setting the Page Size Set the paper size from within the application program be- fore printing. Also make sure that the paper size setting in the Printer Properties dialogue box is identical to the paper size setting in the application program. Confirming the page size You can view the size of paper you use in the print settings information box of the Main tab.

    Changing the page size (for custom paper sizes) When you use custom page sizes, follow the procedure below. Click the Page Layout tab.     Using On-line Help When you want to learn about a particular topic, the on-line Help function provides the necessary information on the screen of your computer. Use the on-line Help whenever you need to know more about the functions or features of the printer driver.

    Closing the Printer Properties Dialogue Box After the necessary print settings are completed, close the Printer Properties dialogue box and start your print job. Enabling on the print settings Make sure that the information in the Direction, Feed, Paper Selection Lever and Paper Thickness Lever in the illustrated guideline is correct.

    Using Background Printing Background printing, controlled by the printer driver, allows you to use other applications in the foreground while long print jobs which require a long time to complete are being executed in the background. About background printing The print processing method which enables you to do other tasks simultaneously while printing documents is called “Background Printing”.

    BJ Background Monitor When a print command is sent to the printer, the BJ Background Monitor is launched automatically and is min- imised on the Windows Taskbar. To verify the progress of the print job, click the BJ Background Monitor icon minimised on the Windows Taskbar.

    • You can change the temporary directory for saving print data. To perform background printing, a region which is used to save the print data temporarily is required on the hard disk. (If sufficient hard disk space is not available, background printing cannot be performed.) To solve this problem, you need to change the directory that saves the print data temporarily.

    Error and warning display If an error occurs, the BJ Status Monitor is launched automatically. Check the meaning of the error in the Sta- tus box of the Printer Status tab first. Then click the Guide tab and refer to the information on the solution. When the remaining ink is running low, the BJ Status Monitor displays a low ink warning icon in the Printer Status tab.

    Cancelling the print job After print processing is completed by the BJ Background Monitor and the BJ Backgrounder, or when Back- ground Printing is disabled in the Page Layout tab of the Printer Properties dialogue box, you can cancel the print job using the BJ Status Monitor.

    Appendices Uninstalling the BJ Printer Driver The printer driver may be updated to improve the perfor- mance of the printer. When you install a new version of the printer driver, delete the old version before installing the new version. Uninstalling the BJ Printer Driver with the Uninstaller When you have installed multiple bubble jet printers and wish to delete all the printer drivers for the bubble jet printers at the same time, use the Uninstaller feature.

    Using IS Scan Plus IS Scan Plus is a utility program that allows you to edit, en- hance, print and save an image acquired by the IS Scan scanner driver. If you do not have a graphics application program for edit- ing, IS Scan Plus makes it possible to scan your favourite images, using it in combination with the Color Image Scan- ner IS-32.

    Using Capture Photo Use the Capture Photo feature when you wish to scan a photographic print such as a snapshot. You can also edit, enhance, save and print the scanned image. Click the Capture Photo button in the Main menu screen of IS Scan Plus. Specify the settings as required.

(The specified portion is called a “Selection Box” and only the area in the selection Box will be scanned.)     Using Capture Image Use the Capture Image feature when you wish to scan an image other than a photographic print. You can also edit, enhance, save and print the scanned image as desired. Click the Capture Image button in the Main menu screen of IS Scan Plus. Select the most appropriate icon in the Scanning Mode box of the Capture Image screen, according to the scanning job content.

    • To move the selection box, place the mouse pointer within the selection box and drag the Note mouse to the desired position. • To resize the selection box, move the mouse pointer to one of the eight points around the selection box and then drag the mouse.

    You can print a scanned image acquired using the Capture Photo or Capture Image feature. Click the Print button. Make sure that “Canon S4500” is displayed and click the Properties button. This displays the Printer Properties dialogue box. Specify the settings in the Printer Properties dialogue box as required.

    Editing a Scanned Image You can edit or enhance a scanned image acquired using the Capture Photo or Capture Image feature. The editing features you can use vary according to the set- tings used for scanning and whether the Capture Photo or Capture Image feature was used for scanning.
  • Page 39 Pixelise Squares off all the pixels in an image to lower resolution and makes the pixels appear larger to create a mosaic tile effect. Posterise Reduces the number of colors in an image. Low Relief Applies special options to create a three-dimensional effect in the image. Background Allows you to add a background to a monochrome image.

    Specify the settings in the Printer Properties dialogue box as required, then click the OK button. Click the Copy button. When a confirmation message appears, click the OK button. Copying begins. Remove the scanner cartridge, and then install the BJ Cartridges according to your print purpose.
