8. MAINTENANCE
Periodic maintenance and adjustment are important to keep the motor in
the best operating condition. Inspect or service as scheduled below.
-
Shut off the engine
before
performing
any maintenance.
If the engine
must be run, make sure the area is well ventilated.
Never run the engine
in an enclosed
or confined
area. Exhaust
contains
poisonous
carbon
monoxide
gas; exposure
can cause loss of consciousness
and may lead
to death.
l
If the engine
must be run, make sure there
is water
at least 2 inches
above
the anti-ventilation
plate, otherwise
the water
pump may not
receive
sufficient
cooling
water,
and the engine will overheat.
l
To maintain
cooling
system
efficiency,
flush the outboard
motor
with
fresh water
after each use in salt water
or dirty water.
l
Use only genuine
HONDA
parts or their equivalent.
The use of replace-
ment parts which
are not of equivalent
quality
may damage the motor;

(1) Lubricate
more frequently
when used in salt water.

by an authorized
Honda outboard
dealer, unless the owner
