Alcohol blended fuels ( called gasohol orusing e thanol ormethanol)
can attract moisture which l eads t oseparation
and formation
ofacids
during s torage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel s ystem o fanengine
while instorage.
Toavoid e ngine problems,
the fuel s ystem s hould beemptied before
storage for30days o rlonger. Drain t he gas tank, start the engine
and letitrun until the fuel l ines a nd carburetor
are empty. Use fresh
fuel n ext season. See STORAGE

TO START ENGINE
1.
Attachspark plugwire and rubberbootto spark plug.
2.
Filltank to no morethan 1/2 inch belowbottomof filler neckto
providespacefor fuelexpansion.
3.
Putthewheels in the WHEELDRIVEposition.
4.
Movethe DepthRegulatorLeverall the way downto the "trans-
port" position,so that the tines clearthe ground.
5.
Releaseall of the controlson the tiller.
6.
Movethe choke leveron theengine to CHOKEI'_1 position.(A
warmengine maynot requirechoking.)See Figure8.

Movethrottlecontrolto START/RUN (Rabbit)_
position.See

Standingon the sideof the unit, graspstarterhandleand pull
ropeout untilyoufeel a drag.

Pullthe ropewith a rapid,continuous, f ull arm stroke.Keepa firm
grip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly.
10. Repeat,if necessary,untilengine starts.Whenengine starts,
movechoke controlgraduallytowardthe RUNI _'I position..
11. If enginefalters, movechoke controlbacktowardthe CHOKE
I_,1 positionand repeatsteps5 though8.
12. ALWAYS keepthe throttlecontrolin theSTART/RUN (Rabbit
positionwhenoperatingthe tiller.
TO STOP ENGINE
1.
To stopthe wheelsand tines, releasethe ForwardClutchBail.
2.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto slow(turtle) '_
position.
Wheneverpossible,graduallyreduceengine speedbefore
stoppingengine.
3.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto STOP
or OFFposition.
4.
Disconnectspark plugwireand groundit against t heengineto
preventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended.
TO ENGAGE
DRIVE & TINES
Do not pushdown on the handlebars, e speciallyin untilledsoil. This
couldallowthe tinesto rapidlypropelthetiller rearward,which can
resut n oss of contro, propertydamage,or persona njury.
1.
Forforwardmotionof the wheelsand powerto the tines pull the
ForwardClutchBail up againstthe handlebar.
NOTE:Inforwardmode,the tines will rotatein reverse.
2.
Walk slowlybehindthetiller allowingit to moveat its own pace
while keepinga securegrip on the handlebarwith yourelbows
flexed.
3.
Releasethe bail to stop the rotationof the wheelsand tines.
To move tiller in reverse: (Do not till in reverse)
a. Releasethe ForwardClutchBail.
b. Lift the handlebaruntilthe tines are off the ground.
c. Slowlypull backon the ReverseLever,and carefullywalk
backwardswith the machine.
NOTE:In reversemode,the tines will rotateforward.
d. If longerdistancesneedto be coveredin reverse,shutoff the
engine,then placethe two wheelsin FREEWHEEL.
