CLEANING
THE SPARK
ARRESTING
SCREEN
Cleaning isrequired every 2 5hours o f
operation
orannually,
whichever
comes first.
1. Loosen and remove the 2muffler
cover screws.
2. Remove the muffler cover (cover
snaps offmuffler body).
3. Remove muffler diffuser and spark
arresting
screen assembly.
Notice
the orientation
ofthese parts f or
reassembling.
4. Clean t he spark a rresting screen
with awire brush. Replace screen
ifbreaks are found.
5. Replace any broken orcracked
muffler parts.
6. Reinstall diffuser and spark a rrest-
ing screen assembly
with round
holes f acing u p.
7. Reinstall muffler cover and 2
screws. Tighten securely.
REPLACE
SPARK PLUG
The spark p lug should bereplaced
each y ear toensure the engine starts
easier and runs b etter. Ignition timing
isfixed and nonadjustable.
1. Loosen 3screws oncylinder
cover.
2. Remove the cylinder cover.
3. Pull off t he spark p lug boot.
4. Remove spark plug from cylinder
and discard.
5. Replace with Champion
CJ-7Y
spark p lug and tighten securely
with a3/4 inch socket wrench.
Spark plug gap should be0.025 i n.
6. Reinstall the spark p lug boot.
7. Reinstall the cylinder cover and 3
screws. Tighten securely.

REPLACE
FUEL F ILTER
Toreplace fuel f ilter, drain y our u nit b y
running itdry offuel. R emove fuel c ap
and itsconnected
retainer from tank.
Pull filter f rom tank and remove from
line. R eplace and reassemble.
WARNING: Disconnect
the spark
plug before performing
maintenance,
service, oradjustments
except forcar-
buretor adjustments.
CHAIN S HARPENING
Chain sharpening
requires special
tools. You can purchase sharpening
tools a tSears orgotoaprofessional
chain s harpener.
CHAIN R EPLACEMENT
WARNING: Wear protective
gloves when h andling chain. The
chain i ssharp a nd can cut y oueven
when i tisnot m oving.
Itisnormal foranew chain t ostretch
during the first 1 5minutes ofoperation.
You should recheck your chain t ension
frequently
and adjust the chain t ension
asrequired.

Replace the old chain w hen i tbe-

place a nd sharpen individual
cutters
onyour c hain.
TOREPLACE
CHAIN:
1. Move O N/STOP
switch totheSTOP
position.
2. Remove chain b rake n uts.
3. Remove chain b rake.

Turn adjusting
screw on bar coun-
terclockwise
to move the tension-
ing rack as far as it will go toward
the front of the bar.
