Beginning with release 5.1, AltiWare uses SoftSwitch architecture. With SoftSwitch
architecture, AltiWare can control telephony boards that reside in different chassis
(AltiGateways) and make them function as a unified system.
Multiple AltiGen servers can be configured as AltiGateways. Each gateway is controlled
by the AltiWare software, rather than by the hardware as in traditional switching center
technology.
An AltiGateway, then, is a telephony server with AltiGen telephony hardware and AltiGen
gateway software that is connected to AltiWare. For a single-server installation, both the
AltiWare switching service and the AltiGateway service are installed on the same server.
In a multi-server installation, additional AltiGateways attach to AltiWare via a LAN.

To configure multiple AltiGen servers to work as one system, one server is designated
as the primary server. Because of its critical role, AltiGen provides a pre-configured
server with adequate processing power for the functions that need to be performed.
AltiWare is installed on this server only.
Other servers in the system should have only the gateway service installed.
AltiWare and AltiGateway servers have to be on the same LAN. Connecting an
Note:
AltiGateway from a remote site to the AltiWare site through a WAN connection is
not supported. The WAN network delay and latency may cause synchronization
signal failure between AltiWare and the AltiGateway.
An AltiGen AltiGateway license is required to set up an AltiGateway. The

expansion of a system by setting up AltiGateways is a service of AltiGen
Professional Deployment Service. Contact AltiGen Sales for information.
