Important information about sampling from your forearm or palm Choose the right sampling site at the right time Glucose levels in forearm or palm blood samples may differ significantly from levels in fingertip samples, especially when your blood glucose level is changing rapidly. - Page 6 Do not test on your forearm or palm when: you think your blood glucose is rapidly falling, such as within two hours of exercise or a rapid-acting insulin injection or insulin pump bolus. Testing with a fingertip sample may identify a hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) level sooner than a test with a forearm or palm sample.

Choosing your sample site Before sampling blood from your forearm or palm, read pages 2 and 3 of this booklet carefully. Forearm sampling Choose a fleshy area of the forearm away from bone or visible veins. Select a spot with no hair. Palm sampling Choose a fleshy area on the palm below your thumb or pinky. -

Rinse and dry completely. Sample in an area with no visible veins, and no hair or lines which may cause your blood sample to smear.

STEP 5 Cock the sampler Slide the ejection/cocking control back until it clicks. If it doesn’t click, it may have been cocked when you inserted the lancet.
