Warning!
The compressor is under pressure with a holding charge of 5 to 15 psig. Incorrect
handling may cause injury to skin and eyes. Wear safety goggles while working
on compressor. Do not open connections before pressure has been released.
Caution!
During operation surface temperature exceeding 140
reached. Serious burns are possible. Before working on the compressor, switch it
off and let it stabilize to room temperature.
The following instructions are prepared to aid the installation and/or service in providing
an adequate installation with optimum performance. These instructions are general in
nature, and have been written primarily for field installation of Ingersoll Rand
compressors.
Design and Application
The compressor should be located in an area provided with adequate ventilation since the
compressor motor and discharge lines reject heat to the environment. Machine room size
and ventilation are covered in national building codes and other applicable local codes. In
general, the required ventilation is a minimum of 100 cfm per nominal compressor
horsepower.
Units and compressors should be mounted horizontally on a level base to assure proper
oil distribution and vibration characteristics. Refrigerant suction lines must be sized to
maintain adequate velocities for proper oil return.
For operation under extreme conditions, i.e. aggressive or corrosive atmospheres,
extreme hot or cold ambient temperatures, etc. suitable measures must be taken.
Consultation with Ingersoll Rand is recommended.
Handling and Receiving of Compressors
When receiving compressors at a job site, careful inspection should be made to assure all
material listed on the bill of lading is accounted for and the materials are free of damage,
including concealed damage. Any damages or shortage of material should be reported to
the delivering carrier, and noted on the bill of lading.
When transporting or moving the compressor to the installation location it should be left
on its shipping base with screws and shipping braces intact. To lift the compressor into its
location the lifting hook provided should be utilized. (See Figure 1)
