    POWERING YOUR PLAYER Charging the Battery Your player has an integrated rechargeable battery. Typical music playtime is up to 8 hours (when playing an MP3 encoded at 128 kbps and the battery is fully charged) Upon initial use, the battery must first be charged fully (12 hours) to ensure optimal performance and battery life. To charge your player: • USB Charge: Your player can be charged through a PC USB con- nection. Plug one end of the USB cable into the player’s USB port and plug the other end into the USB port of a powered-on computer. • When connected to a USB hub, the hub must be self-powered to charge the player’s battery.

    POWERING YOUR PLAYER Turning Your Player On/Off • To turn the player on, press and hold the POWER but- ton until you see the “Initializing” screen. • To turn the player off, press and hold the POWER but- ton until you see “Good Bye!”. Locking/Unlocking Your Player’s Keys (Hold) When engaged, the Key Lock feature disables your player’s controls to prevent accidental key presses when it is in your pocket or bag. • To lock the player, slide the HOLD switch to right. The Lock icon will appear on-screen. • To unlock the player, slide the HOLD switch to the left from the Lock posi- tion. Resetting Your Player Reset your player if it should freeze and not respond or otherwise malfunction. Disconnect your player if it is connected to a computer.     BASIC OPERATIONS Using the Touchpad Controls Your player comes equipped with a touch-sensitive control pad. To use the controls, touch the arrow keys on the front of the player lightly just as you would a button and the controls will light up. If you touch and hold a key, it will register as a continuous button press. Using the Controls to Navigate To navigate through the different menu options and files on your player: • Touch the Arrow keys to move the selection in the direction of the arrow. •...

    Enter Music mode to play your MP3, WMA, or WAV audio files. To enter MUSIC mode, select and confirm from the Main Menu. Upon entering Music mode, you will see a list of all available musics that located on your player. Music Playback Controls Select a track and touch While the track is playing: • Touch to play the next track. • Touch to play the previous track. • Touch and hold to fast forward through the track. • Touch and hold to reverse through the track.

    No Repeat Play tracks once in sequential order. Play the current track repeatedly. Play all tracks repeatedly. Random All Play all tracks in random order. DirRepOne Repeat all tracks in the current folder. DirRep Repeat all tracks in all folder. DirRanAll Play folders in random order. Equalizer The Equalizer option optimizes the way your player processes audio signals. Select the option which best suits the music you are listening to. The options are Normal, Pop, Rock, Classic, Jazz and Bass. Speed Use the Speed function to adjust playback tempo. The Play options are: 70% (Slowest), 80%, 100% (Normal), 120% and 130% (Fastest). Browsing This option allows you to browse your music library to select another track during music playback. • Touch to move the selection up; • Touch to move the selection down; • Touch to play a selection; • Touch to return to the Music mode.     Enter Photo mode to display your JPEG photo files. To enter Photo mode, select and confirm PHOTO in the Main menu. Photo Controls Upon entering Photo mode, you will see a list of all photos that located on your player. • Touch or to move the selection up or down. • Touch to confirm and display a selection. • While a photo is displayed: • Touch to display the next photo in the list.

    Enter Video mode to play your MTV video files. To enter Video mode, select and confirm VIDEO in the Main menu. This Coby player supports playback of MTV files. Please see the Video Conversion section for details on how to create video files that are compatible with your player.     FM RADIO MODE Enter FM Radio Mode to listen the FM Radio broadcasts. To enter FM Radio Mode, select and confirm FM Radio from the Main Menu. Upon entering FM Radio mode, you can tune into stations manually (Normal) or by using preset stations (Preset). • Touch to toggle between these Normal and Preset tuning modes. • Touch or to decrease or increase volume level. You must have a pair of headphones connected to the head- phone jack to receive FM broadcasts; your player will utilize the headphone cord as an antenna. Normal (Manual Tuning) The Normal mode allows you to manually scan and tune to all radio frequen- cies.

    FM RADIO MODE Smart Menu Option (Preset Actions) The Smart Menu gives you quick access to your player’s option settings. To access the Smart Menu, touch The Smart Menu options are: Del/Add Preset. Add Preset (Manual) Manually save the current station as a Preset station. Make sure the player is in Normal tuning mode. Tune to the station you want to store and then touch Smart Menu. Touch or to select “Add Preset”, and touch • “Preset confirm Touch to confirm and save. Del Preset Delete a Preset station.

    Enter E-BOOK mode to read TXT E-book files. To enter E-BOOK mode, select and confirm E-BOOK from the Main Menu. Upon entering E-BOOK mode, you will see a list of all text files that located on your player. • Touch or to move the selection up or down.

    BROWSER MODE Enter Browser mode to manage (Delete) the files on your player. To enter Browser mode, select and confirm BROWSER from the Main Menu. Upon entering Browser mode, you will see a “tree view” which will display all of the folders on your player. • Touch or to select a folder and press • Touch to access the Smart Menu Options. If there are no files in a selected folder, the player will not enter the folder.

    Enter the Setting mode to set your player’s system options. To enter Setting mode, select and confirm SETTING in the Main menu. Upon entering Setting mode, you will have the following options: Power, Lan- guage, Display, Sys Tools, Time, and USB Mode. Touch to select a setting and then press return to a previous menu screen. Power This setting contains two options: Power Off and Sleep. Power Off Set the duration of time (in minutes) until the player turns off automatically. A setting of “Off” will disable this power-saving feature. • Touch or to adjust the Power Off option. • Touch when you are finished to save. •...

    Display Set the Brightness and Backlight. Brightness Set the Brightness (Contrast) level of the display. • Touch or to adjust the Brightness level. • Touch when you are finished to save. • Touch to return to the Display menu without saving. Backlight Set the duration of time until the LCD screen turns off when your player is idle. The options are: 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s, 7s, 8s, 9s and On. A setting of “On” will disable this power-saving feature. • Touch or to adjust the Screen option. • Touch when you are finished to save. • Touch to return to the Display menu without saving. Sys Tools There are 3 options in Sys Tools setting: Format, Reset and Sys Info.

    USB CONNECTIONS Connect the Coby player to a computer with the USB 2.0 cable provided to: • Transfer files to and from your player • Perform basic file management functions. USB Driver Installation (Required for Windows 9 SE Only) It is not necessary to install the USB driver if your computer is running Microsoft Windows ME/2000/XP or newer, or Macintosh OS X. Computers running these operating systems will recognize your player automatically when connected. If your computer is running Windows 98 SE: Insert the Installation CD into your computer’s CD or DVD drive. Make sure to place the mini-CD in the center, recessed well of the drive tray.

    USB CONNECTIONS Connecting to a Computer Connect the player to your computer with the supplied USB cable. Upon connection: • Your computer will automatically recognize the player as an MTP Device. An icon representing your player will appear under “Audio Devices” when you open “My Computer”. • It may take Windows several minutes to recognize and set up the device the first time it is connected depending on your hardware configuration.     USB CONNECTIONS Microsoft Windows Double-click the “My Computer” icon on your desktop and then double- click the icon that represents your Coby player (e.g., MP-C7095) (MTP Multimedia Player). Your player contains two folders: Data and Media. • Drag your media files to the Media folder (e.g., MP3, WMA files). • Drag all other types of files to the Data folder for storage. Data files are only visible from a computer; these files will not be available from within the player itself.

    USB CONNECTIONS Disconnecting from a Computer Disconnect your player as instructed below to detect data loss or file/firmware corruption. Microsoft Windows Double-click the green arrow in the taskbar located on the lower-right side of the computer screen (Safely Remove Hardware). Safely Remove Hardware: Select “USB Mass Storage Device” from the list that appears and then click on “Stop”. Stop a Hardware Device: Select “USB Mass Storage Device” from the list that appears and then click on “OK”. When the “Safe to Remove Hardware” window appears, click the OK button and disconnect the USB cable from the player and your computer. Macintosh OS X On the left side of the Finder Window, identify the appropriate Removable Disk icon.

    VIDEO CONVERSION Use the video conversion software utility included on the Installation CD to cre- ate video files that are suitable for playback on your Coby MP3 player. Your player supports MTV files with the following specifica- tions: 160 x 128 resolution at 15 frames per second (fps) For detailed instructions and information about the video con- version software, please refer to the manual included on the installation CD.     VIDEO CONVERSION Converting Video Start the Video Conversion program. Select the source video file to convert. The source file must be one of the following video types: AVI (*.avi), WMV (*.wmv, *.asf), MPEG-1 (*.mpg), QuickTime (*.mov, *.qt), MPEG-2 (*.vob), RealMedia (*.rm, *.rmvb), MPEG- 4, or 3GP (*.3gp). DirectX 9.0, Windows Media Player 9.0, and other codecs must be installed to support all media types. Select the destination folder that the converted file will be saved to. Ensure that the Output Frame Size is set to “96X64”.

    WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER Windows Media Player 10 (WMP10) You can use Windows Media Player 10 (WMP10) and a USB-MTP connection to manage your music media library with Microsoft Windows XP or newer. Music File Transfers To transfer files using WMP10: Run Window Media Player 10 Connect your player to the computer. A “Device Setup” window will ap- pear. In the ‘Device Setup” window, choose “Synchronize this device with this library for this session only” and click “Finish”. Select “Sync”. There are 2 ways to sync your files with your player: • Drag your songs, photos, or converted video files to the sync list on the left hand side. Click “Start Sync” to start transferring the selected files.

    WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER Creating Playlists Playlists are an easy way to organize and store your favorite music mixes so you can listen to them whenever you want. When a playlist is transferred using Windows Media Player, every song in the playlist will be transferred as well.
