    Align the mounting bracket holes with the rack post holes and attach the chassis to the rack. At this point, if there is a Step 7 third person, then that person can insert the screws while the other two people hold that chassis in place, unless the chassis is resting on a shelf).

    Front rack-mount bracket ear hole location If you are using a two-post rack, secure the rack to the floor surface to prevent tipping and avoid bodily injury and Caution component damage. Position the chassis so the front is closest to you and lift it carefully into the rack. To prevent injury, avoid any sudden Step 1 twists or moves.

  • Page 11: Chassis Ground Connection Installation

    Chassis Ground Connection Installation Before you connect power or turn on power to your router, you must provide an adequate chassis ground (earth) connection for the router chassis. A ground connector is provided on each Cisco ASR 1006 Router. See The dual-lug chassis stud must be installed, the SIP and SPA must be fully inserted and screwed in and earthed to Caution prevent a potential hazard in a telecom line.

    Step 8 Connect the opposite end of the grounding wire to the appropriate grounding point at your site to ensure an adequate chassis ground. This completes the procedure for attaching a chassis ground connection. Go to the on page 12 for information on attaching cables.
  • Page 13: Connect The Shared Port Adapter Cables

    Connect to the port using the RJ-45-to-RJ-45 cable and RJ-45-to-DB-25 DTE adapter or using the – RJ-45-to-DB-9 DTE adapter.     When installing the network interface cables, route the cables up to and through the cable-management bracket ‘U’ Step 1 device. If you are using very thin cables that slip through the bracket openings, insert nylon cable ties through the holes in the bracket and wrap them around the cables to secure them.

  • Page 17 Warning This equipment must be grounded. Never defeat the ground conductor or operate the equipment in the absence of a suitably installed ground conductor. Contact the appropriate electrical inspection authority or an electrician if you are uncertain that suitable grounding is available. Statement 1024 Warning This unit might have more than one power supply connection.
  • Page 18 • An earth ground cable is required for each DC PDU. We recommend that you use at least 6-AWG multistrand copper wire. This wire is not available from Cisco Systems; it is available from any commercial cable vendor. The ground wire cable lug should be dual-hole and able to fit over M6 terminal studs at 0.625 inch (15.88mm) centers.

Therefore, before installing the DC cable lugs, be sure to insulate the lugs according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    Step 5 Repeat Step 2 through Step 4 on the second DC power supply. Wiring the DC-Input Power Source The color coding of the DC-input power supply leads depends on the color coding of the DC power source at your site. Note Typically, green or green/yellow is used for ground (GND) on the power supply.
