  • Page 3 AVR 525 is truly a multichannel receiver for the new millennium. The AVR 525 has been engineered so that it is easy to take advantage of all the power of its digital tech- nology. However, to obtain the maximum enjoyment from your new receiver, we urge you to read this manual.

    Do not obstruct the ventilation slots on the top of the unit, or place objects directly over them. Due to the weight of the AVR 525 and the heat generated by the amplifiers, there is the remote possibility that the rubber padding on the bottom of the unit’s feet may leave marks on certain...
  • Page 5 System Power Control: When the Main Power Switch is “ON, ” press this button to turn on the AVR 525; press it again to turn the unit off. Note that the Power Indicator surrounding the switch will turn green when the unit is on.
  • Page 6 Tuner Band Selector: Pressing this button will automatically switch the AVR 525 to the Tuner mode. Pressing it again will switch between the AM and FM frequency bands. (See page 31 for more information on the tuner.)

  • Page 10 Coaxial Digital Audio Inputs: Connect the coax digital output from a DVD player, HDTV receiver, the S/P-DIF output of a compatible computer sound card playing MP3 files or streams, LD player or CD player to these jacks. The signal may be a Dolby Digital signal, DTS signal or a standard PCM digital source.

  • Page 12 AVR Selector: Pressing this button will switch the remote so that it will operate the AVR 525’s functions. If the AVR 525 is in the Standby mode, it will also turn the AVR 525 on. AM/FM Tuner Select: Press this button to select the AVR 525’s tuner as the listening choice.
  • Page 13 Disc Skip Buttons: This button has no direct function for the AVR 525 but is most often used to change to the next disc in a CD or DVD player when the remote is programmed for that type of device.

    Coaxial Digital Audio Inputs 4. Connect the coaxial or optical Digital Audio Outputs ik on the rear panel of the AVR 525 to the matching digital input connections on a CD-R or MiniDisc recorder. 5. Assemble the AM Loop Antenna supplied with the unit.

    Multiroom IR Link The remote room IR receiver should be connected to the AVR 525 via standard coaxial cable. Plug the IR con- nection cable into the Multiroom IR Input f jack on the AVR 525’s rear panel.

This is due to the requirements of Logic 7 processing, and does not indicate a problem with your receiver.

    Output level adjustment is a key part of the configura- tion of any surround sound product. It is particularly important for a digital receiver such as the AVR 525, as correct outputs ensure that you hear soundtracks with the proper directionality and intensity.

    Program/SPL Indicator will flash green twice and then go out. The tone will stop and the AVR 525 will return to normal operation. If you find that the output levels chosen by EzSet are either uncomfortably low or high, you may repeat the procedure.

While there are some additional settings to be made, these are best done after you have had an opportunity to lis- ten to a variety of sources and different kinds of pro- gram material.

    The following instructions will help you maximize the enjoyment of your new receiver: Turning the AVR 525 On or Off • When using the AVR 525 for the first time, you must press the Main Power Switch on the front panel to turn the unit on.

    The Pro Logic II Emulation mode re-creates original Pro Logic processing for those who prefer that presentation. Logic 7 Cinema Exclusive to Harman Kardon for A/V receivers, Logic 7 is an advanced mode that extracts the maximum surround information from either Logic 7 Music surround-encoded programs or conventional stereo material.

    It is also the format used as an output by audio transcoders such as the Harman Kardon DAL 150. The digital circuits in the AVR 525 are capable of high- quality digital-to-analog decoding, and they may be connected directly to the digital audio output of your CD or LD player.

    Once changed to an output, the setting will remain as long as the AVR 525 is turned on, unless the setting is changed in the OSD menu system, as described above.

  • Page 34 Turn-On Volume Level As is the case with most audio/video receivers, when the AVR 525 is turned on, it will always return to the volume setting in effect when the unit was turned off. However, you may prefer to always have the AVR 525 turn on at a specific setting, regardless of what was last in use when the unit was turned off.
