    Drive handling CAUTION: Drives are fragile components that must be handled with care. To prevent damage to the computer, damage to a drive, or loss of information, observe these precautions: Before removing or inserting a hard drive, shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

    Display assembly internal components NOTE: If it has been determined that the display bezel, camera module, display inverter, display panel, or speakers are the components that must be replaced to complete the computer repair, the display assembly does not have to be completely removed from the computer. Replacement of these components can be completed by removing only the display bezel.

  • Page 46 Remove the ten Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws that secure the display bezel to the display assembly. Flex the inside edges of the left and right sides (1) and the top and bottom edges (2) of the display bezel until the bezel disengages from the display enclosure. Remove the display bezel (3).
  • Page 47 Disconnect the camera module cable (3) from the camera module. Remove the camera module. The camera module is available using spare part number 452304-001. If it is necessary to replace the display inverter, remove the display inverter (1) from the display enclosure as far as the two display inverter cables and the backlight cable allow.
  • Page 48 If it is necessary to replace the display panel, remove the eight Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws that secure the display panel to the display enclosure. Tilt the top edge of the display panel (1) forward until the display panel cable connector is accessible.   • Page 50 Lift the rear edge of the hard drive bay cover (2), swing it forward, and remove the cover. The hard drive bay cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 448171-001. Loosen the Phillips PM2.5×12.0 screw (1) that secures each hard drive to the computer. Disconnect the hard drives (2) from the system board by sliding the hard drives away from the hard drive connectors.

    Lift the left side of the TV tuner module compartment cover (2), swing the cover up and to the right, and remove the cover. The TV tuner module compartment cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 448171-001. Disconnect the TV tuner cable (1) from the TV tuner module.

    Remove the module (2) by pulling it away from the slot at an angle. NOTE: Memory modules are designed with a notch (3) to prevent incorrect installation into the memory module slot.     Remove the optical drive (3). If it is necessary to replace the optical drive bracket, position the optical drive with the optical drive bracket toward you. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the optical drive bracket to the optical drive.

    Slide the keyboard (2) forward until the tabs on the rear edge of the keyboard disengage from the slots in the top cover. Rotate the rear edge of the keyboard (3) forward until it rests upside down on the palm rest. Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector (1) to which the keyboard cable is attached and disconnect the keyboard cable (2).

    Before removing the hinge cover, follow these steps: Shut down the computer.     Disconnect the following cables: (1) Fingerprint reader board cable (2) LED board cable (3) TouchPad board cable (4) TouchPad on/off board cable Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws (1) that secure the top cover to the computer. Lift the rear edge of the top cover (2) until the top cover disengages from the computer. Remove the top cover.

    Before removing the fingerprint reader board, follow these steps: Shut down the computer.     Remove the audio/infrared board: Disconnect the audio/infrared board cable (1) from the system board. Remove the two Phillips PM2.5×5.0 screws (2) that secure the audio/infrared board to the computer. Remove the audio/infrared board (3) from the base enclosure. Reverse this procedure to install the audio/infrared board. Bluetooth module NOTE: The Bluetooth module spare part kit does not include a Bluetooth module cable.
