    Setup Before using your phone, peel the protective film off the display. The film protects the handset window during shipment and is not necessary for use. Important Caller ID Information To use Caller ID and Call Waiting, you must be in an area where those services are available and you must subscribe to those services through your local phone company. Where Caller ID is offered, one or more options are generally available: • Caller’s number only • Caller’s name only • Caller’s name and number If you subscribe to Call Waiting ID and Caller ID, the system can show you the incoming caller information, even when you are already talking on the phone. Select a Location You can place the phone’s base on a desk or table, or mount it on a standard wall plate or directly on a wall. Select a location that is: • Near an accessible AC outlet • Near a telephone line jack • Out of the way of normal activities • Away from electrical machinery, electrical appliances, metal walls or filing cabinets, wireless intercoms, alarms, and room monitors • Away from other cordless phones The base’s location affects the handset’s range. If you have a choice of several locations, try each to see which provides the best performance. Install Base Holder For desktop use: 1. Turn the base holder so the wire hook is facing the top of the base.

    For wall mounting: 1. Turn the base holder so the wire hook is facing the bottom of the base. 2. Insert the tabs into the top notches on the bottom of the base, then snap the bottom taps into place. To remove the base holder: Press the tabs located on the legs of the holder to loosen, then lift the holder up and away from the telephone base. Connect Phone Base 1. Plug one end of the supplied modular cord into the TEL LINE jack and plug the other end into a telephone wall jack. 2. Plug the supplied AC adapter’s barrel plug into the DC IN 9V jack and plug the other end into a standard household outlet. Make sure the outlet is not controlled by a wall switch. 3. Route the adapter and modular cords through the holder’s grooves. Note: If you use Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) high-speed Internet service through your telephone lines, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack to prevent noise and Caller ID problems caused by DSL interference.

    Mounting on a Wall Mounting on a wall plate: 1. Connect the phone as shown on page 9, except use a short modular cord (not supplied) to plug into the wall plate. 2. Align the base and the holder’s keyhole slots with the wall plate studs and slide the base downward to secure it.     Install and Charge Battery Install the battery as shown below. The battery may have enough initial charge for a short call. For best performance, charge the battery for at least 15-20 hours before first use. Completely charge and drain the battery once a month afterwards. When the battery power is low, screen. 1. Press down and slide the battery compartment cover off. 2. Insert the plug of the battery as indicated (the connector fits only one way). Make sure it is plugged securely and matches the color-coded label inside the battery compartment. 3. Place the battery and the wires inside the battery compartment. 4. Align the battery compartment cover flat against the battery compartment, then slide it upwards until it clicks into place. 5. Charge the handset by placing it in the telephone base. The CHARGE / IN USE indicator lights on the base when charging. Recycle rechargeable batteries Placing rechargeable batteries in the trash can be harmful to the environment. Instead, recycle old rechargeable batteries at your local RadioShack store free of charge.
  • Page 12 Battery Notes: • If the handset will not be used for a long period of time, remove the battery to prevent possible leakage. • When you first use the phone after charging or recharging the battery pack, the phone might not work and you might hear error beeps. If this happens, place the handset on the base to change the digital security code. • Using a damp cloth, clean the charging contacts on both the handset and base about once a month.

    Dial Mode If you have pulse (rotary) service, set the TONE / PULSE switch on the back of the base to PULSE. If you have touch tone service, the telephone is ready for use as soon as the battery is charged. If you are not sure of your dialing system, make a trial call using tone dialing. If the call connects, leave the setting as is. Otherwise set for pulse dialing. Ringer Options Turning the Base Ringer On and Off Slide the RINGER ON / OFF switch on the side of the base to ON or OFF. Selecting the Base Ringer Tone Press RINGER TONE on the side of the base to select one of the seven ringer tones (when phone is not in use). Adjusting Base Ringer Volume Slide RINGER VOLUME to set ringer volume at a desired level.   • Page 14: Using The Belt Clip

    Using the Belt Clip You can use a belt clip to hang the handset on your belt for greater convenience when using a headset or when expecting a call. To attach the belt clip: Line up and insert the belt clip into the holes on each side of the handset. Press down until it clicks. To remove the belt clip: Pull either side of the belt clip to release the tabs from the holes. Using a Headset You can connect an optional headset with a Open the rubber cover on the side of the handset. Then insert the headset’s plug into the jack. When you finish using the headset, disconnect it from the handset and close the rubber cover to protect the jack. Note: If you place the handset on the base to recharge it while the headset is connected, be sure the handset seats properly.

    CIDCW (Caller ID on Call Waiting) 1. Press MENU. 2. Select CIDCW 3. Press SELECT to toggle between 4. Press MENU and return handset to the base. Home Area Code If you dial local calls using only seven digits (area code not required), program your home area code so that when you receive a call within your local area, the telephone number automatically appears without the area code. 1.     Telephone Operation Making Calls Press TALK, wait for a dial tone, and use the number keys to dial a number. –OR– Enter the phone number first, then press TALK to dial. Answering Calls • If Auto Talk is off, press TALK to answer a call. • If Auto Talk is on and handset is on the base, pick up the handset from the base. • If Auto Talk is on and handset is off the base, press TALK, any number key, g to answer an incoming call. TONE f or Ending Calls Press TALK or put the handset back on the telephone base to end a call. Note: The call timer is activated during a call to show call duration. Listening Volume Press RING/VOL +/– to adjust the listening volume during a conversation. An error tone sounds when the maximum or minimum volume is reached.

    Press PAGE again or put the handset back on the telephone base to stop the paging tone. Call Waiting If you subscribe to Call Waiting service from your telephone company, you will hear a beep if you are on a call when a new call comes in. The Caller ID information is displayed if you subscribe to the combined Caller ID with Call Waiting service. • Press FLASH on the handset to put the current call on hold and answer the incoming call. • Press FLASH at anytime to alternate between calls. Voice Mail If you subscribe to Voice Mail service from your telephone company, you can use your cordless telephone to access your voice mailbox. The VISUAL RINGER LED light on the base of your phone flashes whenever you have messages waiting in your voice mailbox. You can program your access number to a memory dial location. (The voice mail service provider will supply you with the access number. This number may be simply a phone number. Refer to the provider’s literature.) You may need to occasionally reset the indicator if it remains on after you have retrieved your messages. To reset the indicator, press and hold PAGE for five seconds. Temporary Tone Dialing If you have pulse (rotary) service, you can change from pulse to touch tone dialing during a call. This is useful if you need to send touch tone signals for telephone banking or long distance services. Once you have initiated your call, press TONE f. All subsequent key presses are sent as touch tone signals. After you hang up, the phone returns to pulse (rotary) dialing for the next call.

    Memory Dialing Memory Dialing allows you to dial a number using just a few key presses. You can store up to ten names and numbers in the handset. Each entry can have of a number up to 20 digits and a name up to 14 characters. When entering numbers and characters: • Press TONE f or g to move the cursor to the left or right. • Press DEL/CH to erase a number/character. • Press and hold DEL/CH to delete all characters. • Press REDIAL to enter a pause in the dialing sequence. The display shows . Each pause counts as one digit and represents a two second delay of time between the digit. Storing an Entry 1. Press MEM, Select Memory 2.     Character Chart Use the number keys and the chart below to enter a name (up to 14 characters). Each press of a particular key causes the characters to be displayed in the following order. For example, press 2 three times to get a capital C; press 0 seven times to get a blank; etc. Number Calling from Memory Memory Dialing from Standby Mode: 1. Press MEM. The handset displays your programmed memory locations. 2. Press RING/VOL +/– or (0–9) to select the memory location to dial. 3. Press TALK. and the volume setting appear on the display. Then the Talk displayed number is dialed. Notes: • If you press SELECT before TALK, you can confirm the name and the number stored in the selected memory location. • To exit the memory function without dialing, return the handset to the base.

Chain Dialing The memory locations on the handset are not limited to phone numbers. You can also store a group of numbers (up to 20 digits) that you need to enter once your call connects. This is referred to as Chain Dialing.

    Emergency Dial Number You can store an important or frequently dialed number in the Emergency Dial location and then dial it by pressing + (Emergency Dial). Storing and Editing the Emergency Dial Number 1. In standby mode, press and hold + (Emergency Dial). 2. If the emergency dial location is empty, display with a flashing cursor. If a number is already stored in the emergency dial location, appears on the display. Select 3. Use the number keys to enter the telephone number. 4. Press SELECT.     Caller ID About Caller ID The Caller ID with Call Waiting feature lets you see the name and telephone number of the caller before answering the call, even when already on a call. These features require services provided by your local telephone company. Contact your telephone company if: • You have both Caller ID and Call Waiting, but as separate services (you may need combined service) • You have only Caller ID service, or only Call Waiting service • You do not subscribe to any Caller ID or Call Waiting services but wish to try these services You can use this telephone with regular Caller ID service, and you can use its other features without subscribing to either Caller ID or combined Caller ID with Call Waiting service. There may be fees for these services, and these services may not be available in all areas. Make sure you have turned on the Caller ID on Call Waiting feature (See “CIDCW (Caller ID on Call Waiting)” on page 15.) About the Call Log If you subscribe to Caller ID service, information about each caller will be displayed after the first or second ring. • The call log can store up to 30 entries. • When the call log is full, the earliest entry will be deleted to make room for new incoming call information.

    Reviewing the Call log 1. Press CID to view the call log. 2. Press RING/VOL – to display the latest Caller ID message. 3. Press RING/VOL – to see next message or RING/VOL + to see previous message. 4. Place the handset onto the base to exit. Notes: • If no key is pressed for more than 30 seconds, an error tone sounds and the telephone returns to the standby mode. • Each message can be up to 15 characters for the phone number and the name. • The number of calls from the same Caller ID appears next to the received time.     • Press 3 to set or cancel the area code setting. • You cannot make a call from the Caller ID list if your cordless telephone is connected to a private branch exchange (PBX). Saving a Call Log Entry into Memory Messages shown in the Caller ID list can be stored in memory. 1. Press CID to enter the call log. 2. Press RING/VOL +/– to select the phone number to be stored. 3. Press MEM. 4. Press RING/VOL +/– or (0–9) to select a memory location. 5. Press SELECT. A confirmation sounds and the number is stored in memory. Note: If a number has already been stored in the selected memory location, a confirmation screen is displayed.

    Additional Information Troubleshooting If you have difficulty with your telephone, please try the suggestions below. For Customer Service, visit your local RadioShack store or go to www.RadioShack.com. My telephone does not work at all. • Make sure the battery is installed and charged correctly (page 11). For optimum daily performance, return the handset to the telephone base after use. • Make sure the power adapter is securely plugged into an outlet not controlled by a wall switch. • Make sure the telephone line cord is plugged firmly into the telephone base and the wall jack. • Unplug the unit’s electrical power. Wait approximately 15 seconds, then plug it back in. • Charge the battery in the handset for 24 hours. • Remove and re-insert the battery. If that still does not work, it may be necessary to purchase a new battery. • Disconnect the telephone base from the jack and plug in a working telephone. If this telephone does not work, call the local telephone company.

Wait for 15 seconds before plugging it back in. Allow up to one minute for the handset and telephone base to reset. • The telephone might be malfunctioning. If another telephone has the same problem, contact your local telephone company (charges may apply). • The telephone line cord might be malfunctioning. Try installing a new telephone line cord. • Remove and re-insert the battery and place the handset in the telephone base. Wait for the handset to synchronize with the telephone base. Allow up to one minute for this to take place. I cannot dial out. • First try all the above suggestions. • Make sure there is a dial tone before dialing. It is normal if the handset takes a second or two to synchronize with the telephone base before producing a dial tone. Wait an extra second before dialing. • Make sure the telephone is set to the correct dial type (pulse dial or tone dial) for the service in your area. See “Dial Mode” on page 13 to set the dial type. • If the other telephones in your home are having the same problem, contact your local telephone company (charges may apply). • Eliminate any background noise. If you cannot eliminate the background noise, first try muting the handset before dialing, or dialing from another room in your home with less background noise. There is noise or interference during a telephone conversation. My calls cut in and out when I am using the cordless handset.

Try moving the telephone base to another location, preferably a higher location for better reception. • Test the telephone jack by disconnecting the telephone base from the jack and plug in a corded telephone. If calls are still not clear, contact the local telephone company (charges may apply). • If the other telephones in your home are having the same problem, contact the local telephone company (charges may apply). • If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (Digital Subscriber Line - DSL) through your telephone lines, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone base and the telephone wall jack to prevent noise and Caller ID problems caused by DSL interference. Please contact your DSL service provider for more information about DSL filters. I hear other calls when using the telephone. • Test the telephone jack by disconnecting the telephone base from the jack. Plug in a different telephone. If there are still other calls, call your local telephone company. • Press DEL/CH to switch to a clearer channel when on a call. I hear noise in the handset, and none of the keys or buttons work. •...
  • Page 30 Caller ID entries do not match the numbers I need to dial. • Although the call log entries you receive have 10 digits, (the area code plus the seven-digit number,) in some areas, you may need to dial only seven digits, or a 1 plus the seven digits, or a 1 plus the area code plus the seven digits. You can change the number of digits that you dial or store from the call log. • While reviewing the call log, press # repeatedly to display these dialing options for local and long distance numbers before dialing or saving the telephone number. My cordless handset beeps and is not performing normally. • Make sure the power cord is securely plugged into the telephone base. Plug the unit into a different working electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. • Move the handset closer to the telephone base. It may be out of range. • Reset the telephone base by unplugging the unit’s electrical power. Wait for 15 seconds and plug it back in again. Allow up to one minute for the handset and the telephone base to synchronize.

    Operating Range This cordless telephone operates with the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, this handset and telephone base can communicate over only a certain distance, which can vary with the locations of the telephone base and handset, the weather, and the layout of your home or office. If the handset moves out of range during a telephone conversation, there might be interference. To improve reception, move closer to the telephone base. Maintenance Your cordless telephone contains sophisticated electronic parts and must be treated with care. Place the handset down gently. Save the original packing materials to protect your telephone if you ever need to ship it. Your telephone can be damaged if it gets wet. Do not use the handset outdoors in the rain, or handle it with wet hands. Do not install the telephone base near a sink, bathtub or shower. Electrical storms can sometimes cause power surges harmful to electronic equipment. For your own safety, take caution when using electrical appliances during storms. Your telephone has a durable plastic casing that should retain its luster for many years. Clean it only with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild soap. Do not use excess water or cleaning solvents of any kind. Remember that electrical appliances can cause serious injury if used when you are wet or standing in the water. If the telephone base should fall into the water, DO NOT RETRIEVE IT UNTIL YOU UNPLUG THE POWER CORD AND TELEPHONE LINE CORD FROM THE WALL. Then pull the unit out by the unplugged cords.

    About Cordless Telephones • Privacy: There is a possibility that the cordless telephone conversations could be intercepted by radio receiving equipment within range of the cordless handset. You should not think of cordless telephone conversations as being as private as those on corded telephones. • Electrical Power: The telephone base of this cordless telephone must be connected to a working electrical outlet not be controlled by a wall switch. • Potential TV interference: To minimize or prevent interference from cordless telephones, do not place the telephone base of the cordless telephone near or on top of a TV or VCR. • Rechargeable batteries: This product contains either nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal hydride rechargeable batteries. Exercise care in handling batteries in order not to create a short circuit with conducting material such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The battery or conductor may overheat and cause harm.     To be certain of the number of devices that may be connected to a line, as determined by the total RENs, contact the local telephone company. e) If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. But if advance notice isn’t practical, the telephone company will notify the customer will be notified as soon as possible. You will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC if you believe it is necessary. f) Your telephone company may make changes in its facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of your equipment. If they do, you will be given advance notice so as to give you an opportunity to maintain uninterrupted service. g) If you experience trouble with this equipment, please contact your service provider for repair/warranty information. If your equipment is causing harm to the telephone network, the telephone company may request that you disconnect the equipment until the problem is resolved. h) No repair can be done to this equipment. i) Connection to party line service is subject to state tariffs.
