    First-time Operation Read the steps below to help you learn what parts are included, and to gain an understanding of some basic computer-related operations. Confirm the inclusion of all parts.   • Page 13 Connect your computer to a power outlet. The battery pack will be charged automatically. Charging Time: Approx. 5.5 hours (Varies depending on the usage conditions.) CAUTION Be sure the AC adaptor is connected until completing the first-time use opera- tion. When using the computer for the first time, do not connect any peripheral de- vice except the battery pack and AC adaptor to the computer.
  • Page 14 First-time Operation Enter your computer name and administrator password and then select [Next]. CAUTION Remember this password! If the password is forgotten, Windows cannot be operated. Enter the correct date, time and the time zone, then select [Next]. NOTE It may take some time before the computer restarts and the screen of step 7 is displayed.
  • Page 15 If the characters or icons on the screen are too small and difficult to see, after completing step 8 , select [start] - [All Programs] - [Panasonic] - [Icon Enlarger]. This will allow you to magnify the display of characters and icons on the screen.

    Starting Up/Shutting Down Starting Up Open the display. Press and hold the latch (A) located at the front. Lift open the display. CAUTION Do not open the display wider than necessary (170° or more). Do not apply excessive pressure to the LCD. Also, do not hold the LCD when opening or closing the display.
  • Page 17 Enter Password [ NOTE The power saving function is factory set, so if there is no input from a key, the touch pad or an external mouse (when one is connected) for a certain interval of time, the power to the LCD and hard disk may be turned off. The LCD will resume operation when the touch pad or an external mouse (when one is connected) is used or a key is pressed.

    RAM Module Use a RAM module meeting the RAM module specifications below. If a module is used that does not meet the specifications, there are cases in which data may become unusable or the computer may not operate properly. RAM module specifications: ( 172 pins, Micro DIMM, 2.5 V, DDR SDRAM, PC2700 Contact your technical support office to confirm recommended RAM module.

(The gold terminals (F) are visible) 3 Insert the module parallel to the slot and press firmly until the gold terminals are no longer visible. The slot may be damaged if the following procedure is performed without inserting the module firmly.

    Hard Disk Backup Function The hard disk backup function creates a backup area (storage area) on the hard disk. This area is to back up (store) hard disk contents or restore backed up contents to their original locations. By backing up the data on your hard disk to a backup area, you can protect your data from loss or damage resulting from operational errors or other factors.
