    Chapter 1 1-1 Important Safety Instructions To ensure the safe operation of this scanner, be sure to read the safety warnings and precautions described below. Installation Location The performance of this scanner is affected by the environment in which it is installed. Make sure that the location where the scanner is installed meets the following environmental requirements.

    Hi-Speed USB 2.0. CAUTION • Do not block the ventilation openings. Doing so could cause the scanner to overheat, creating a risk of fire. • Do not connect both a USB cable and a SCSI cable at the same time. Doing so may cause a malfunction.

    - Normal operation is not guaranteed with all USB interfaces, even if present as standard equipment on the computer. For details, consult your local authorized Canon dealer. - The USB cable you are using should be the one originally included with the scanner or a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 compatible cable.

    This section describes how to install the required software. Setup Disc When you insert the Setup disc supplied with the scanner into the CD-ROM drive of your computer, the menu shown below should appear. If this menu does not appear, use Explorer to access the CD- ROM drive and execute the file “SETUP.EXE.”...

    • When you select [Typical Installation], all of the displayed software and the User Manual will be installed automatically. If you want to reinstall only specific software that you have previously uninstalled, select [Custom Installation] and specify the software. • The DR-6010C driver installation comprises the Scanner Driver and Job Tool installation.

    IMPORTANT • When connecting the scanner to the computer using a SCSI cable, be sure to turn power to the scanner ON first, and then turn power to the computer ON. If you turn power to the computer ON first, the scanner may not be properly recognized by the computer.

  • Page 32 Scanning different sizes and types of paper together can cause the scanner to jam. • Scanning documents before the ink is dry can cause problems with the scanner. Always make sure that the ink on a document is dry before scanning it.

    The scanner has two eject methods: documents can be ejected to the front of the scanner in a U- turn path, or to the back of the scanner in a straight path. You can switch between these methods by opening or closing the document eject tray 2. Select an eject method according to your needs.
  • Page 34 IMPORTANT • Be sure there is enough space for documents that are ejected at the back of the scanner when using the straight path. If there is not enough space for the ejected pages, the documents may be damaged or a paper jam may occur.

    ■ Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry that may get caught in the scanner while you are using it. This may result in personal injury. Be extra careful of neckties and long hair.

    In addition to using scanning applications, such as Capture Perfect 3.0 to perform scanning, the DR- 6010C is equipped with the Job Function. The Job Function enables you to scan simply by touching a job button on the scanner. This section provides an overview of the Job Function and describes the steps for using it.

    Save as file: Saves scanned image data as PDF files in the [Pictures] folder. • If you assign scan functions to all three job buttons on the scanner, use the Start and Stop buttons on the Scan Panel to start or stop scanning.

    To open patchcode sheets you need CapturePerfect 3.0, which is provided with the scanner, or an application, which supports PDF format files. IMPORTANT Patchcode sheets must be printed in their original size. The scanner may not recognize them as patchcode sheets if they are enlarged or reduced. is being used.

    There are two types of patchcodes and their function changes according to their pattern. ■ PATCH T (FILE A) When the scanner recognizes this patchcode printed on a patchcode sheet, it creates a separate file for the document that comes after the patchcode sheet.

    Chapter 3 Basic Operation 3-7 Clearing a Paper Jam When paper jams occur during scanning, use the following procedure to clear them. CAUTION When removing jammed paper, take care not to cut your hands on the edges of the paper. Remove any documents that have been left in the eject tray, and close the eject tray guide.

    Problem The scanner is not ON. Solution Check to see if the scanner is ON. If the scanner is not ON, shut down the PC, then turn the scanner ON first, and then the PC. Problem The SCSI card is not compatible with the scanner.

    Chapter 5 Troubleshooting IMPORTANT • If documents are not scanned normally even if the scanner setup is OK, a probable cause is that the scanner driver or application software is not running correctly. Re-install the scanner driver or application software.
  • Page 82: Saved Image Files Do Not Open

    The rollers inside the scanner are dirty or worn. Solution Clean the rollers, then they need to be replaced. Contact your local authorized Canon dealer or service representative to purchase a roller replacement kit. IMPORTANT The retard roller and roller unit are consumable components. You need to replace the retard roller and roller unit when cleaning does not appear to improve performance.
  • Page 83 Clean the scanning glass and rollers. If lines still appear on the image even after cleaning the scanning glass and rollers, the scanning glass inside the scanner may be scratched.
