    The performance of this scanner is affected by the environment in which it is installed. Make sure that the location where the scanner is installed meets the following environmental requirements. ● Provide adequate space around the scanner (as indicated in the above diagram) for operation, maintenance and ventilation purposes.

    ● Before you plug the power cord into an outlet, be sure that the power source meets the requirements of the scanner. ● Do not connect this scanner to a power outlet that is shared with other equipment. When using an extension cord, make sure that the extension cord is rated for the current requirements of the scanner.

    Do not use flammable liquids to clean the scanner, including alcohol, benzene, or paint thinner. ■ If the scanner ever makes a strange noise, emits smoke or a strange odor, or becomes hot, or if the scanner does not operate at all even though the power is on, immediately turn the scanner off and unplug the power cord.

    Before using the scanner, remove the protective tape and protective sheet that protect the scanner from damage during shipment. Remove the protective tape that is attached to the exterior of the scanner. Open the paper feed tray and remove the protective tape that is inside the scanner.

    Installing the Scanner Installation Requirements In order to use the DR-3080CII, your computer must satisfy the following system requirements: ● IBM PC/AT-compatible that satisfies the following specifications: • Intel Celeron 733 MHz or faster • Main memory: 256 MB or more (recommended) •...

(See “Connecting the Scanner to Your PC” on p.19) ● The USB cable you are using should be the one originally bundled with the scanner or a Hi-Speed USB 2.0-compatible cable.

    Make sure that the USB driver is an updated version provided by Adaptec or Microsoft. Note ● The DR-3080CII passed the Hi-Speed USB 2.0 certification test. However, when you use the scanner with a personal computer equipped with USB 2.0 as standard, the scanner may not always operate normally. ●...

Connecting via SCSI Notes on the Shape of Connectors and the SCSI Cable • The DR-3080CII is equipped with a 50-pin half-pitch (pin type) SCSI connector. • After checking the shape of the SCSI connector on your computer and connected SCSI device, purchase a SCSI cable with the right combination of connectors.
  • Page 22 ● Make sure that the scanner and your PC are both turned off when connecting the scanner to the PC. ● The factory default setting for the terminator of the scanner is set to ON as default. Be sure to turn off all terminators of the SCSI devices connected between the scanner and the PC.

    IMPORTANT ● If the OS you are using is Windows NT, the connection via USB is not supported. When using the DR-3080CII with Windows NT, be sure to connect the scanner via SCSI. ● When using a USB hub, be sure to use one compatible with USB 2.0.

    Connecting the Power Cord Connect the power cord that is provided with this scanner to the power cord connector located on the rear of the scanner, and then plug the cord into a power outlet. IMPORTANT ● Only use the power cord that was provided with this scanner.

    Turning the Power On Turn on the scanner. The power switch is located on the lower right front corner of the scanner. To turn the scanner on, press the power switch. When the power indicator lights green, the scanner is on.

    When the power indicator turns off, the scanner is off. Note ● When connecting the DR-3080CII via SCSI, turn the scanner on first, and then turn the PC on. ● Wait at least 10 seconds before turning the scanner back on.

    Before installing the software, be sure to open and read the Readme.txt file on the setup disc. The setup disc included with the scanner contains the following software: ● ISIS/TWAIN driver This driver allows this scanner to be used with ISIS-compatible application software or TWAIN-compatible application software.
  • Page 29 On the Start menu, click Run. The Run dialog box appears. In the Open box, type “D:\Driver\Setup.exe” (where “D” is the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive) and then click the OK button. The Installer starts. Follow the instructions on the screen and complete the installation. Restart Windows when you have completed the installation.

    Uninstalling the ISIS/TWAIN Driver Follow the procedure described below to uninstall the ISIS/TWAIN driver. IMPORTANT If you are using Windows NT 4.0 Workstation, Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows XP, be sure to log on as a user with administrator privileges. Close the scan panel that is in the task tray.

  • Page 41: Setting Up The Paper Feed Tray And The Document Eject Tray

    Do not place anything other than documents, and especially not heavy objects, on the paper feed tray. The object could fall suddenly and injure someone, or the scanner itself could be damaged, which could result in lower image quality. Using the Scanner...
  • Page 42 ● Always be sure to open the document eject tray extension. If the guide is not open when a document is scanned, the scanned document could droop down and become jammed in the scanner. ● To close the trays and extensions, follow the above procedure in reverse.
  • Page 43: Installing The Document Eject Guide

    When scanning a document that is particularly thin or particularly long, it could droop down over the edge of the document eject tray extension and become jammed in the scanner. Avoid this problem by attaching the document eject guide. Grasp the edge of the document eject tray extension and lift it up.

Note ● Although it is still possible to scan normal documents while the document eject guide is in place, the guide will cause stacking problems when scanning documents on paper that is thicker than normal.

    When loading a document for scanning, be careful to remove all paper clips, staples, etc., from the document. During the scanning process, such objects can tear the document, cause a paper jam, and damage the scanner. If the scanner is not going to be used again soon after the document has been scanned, protect the scanner from damage by removing the document eject guide (if it is attached to the document eject tray) and then close the paper feed tray and the document eject tray extension.

    Place a single sheet of the document in the paper feed tray and then gently push it into the document feed opening. The scanner will begin to take the sheet in and scan it.

    The scanner uses a folio scanning method to scan documents that are bigger than B4 size paper (maximum A3 size paper). To do folio scanning, fold the document in half and set it on the scanner, both sides of the folded document are scanned and are combined as a single image.

    Clearing a Paper Jam If a paper jam occurs in the scanner, follow the procedure described below. CAUTION Be careful when removing jammed paper. It is possible to cut your hand on the edge of a sheet of paper. If there are any ejected sheets already in the document eject tray, remove them.
