    Connecting the speakers and antennas Speaker cords Press down on the tab below the terminal, and insert the end of the cord marked with a red line into the + terminal and the cord with no marking into the – terminal. Make sure the metal leads (not the part covered with vinyl insulation) are securely inserted into the speaker terminals.

    Canceling automatic demonstration The display on this unit is factory set to automatically light up and play back demonstration images even when the power is turned off. To enable automatic demonstration, do the following. Press  (power) to turn off the unit.

    Importing audio data from an MP3 disc, a “WALKMAN” , or a USB device You can import audio data stored on an MP3 disc, a “WALKMAN”, or a USB device to the HDD. Sound monitoring during recording is not possible. When you import audio data to the HDD, the audio format, bit rate and title information of the imported data remain unchanged from the source.

    To select the source memory on a USB device for importing For some USB devices, you may have to select the memory (for example, the internal memory or a memory card) in which the desired folder or track is stored.     Connecting a digital music player to the DMPORT You can listen to or record playback sound from an optional digital music player (such as a portable audio player, etc.) that is compatible to DMPORT connection. Connect the DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapter (optional) to the unit and the digital music player.

    Connecting an external component (AUDIO You can listen to or record playback sound from an external component (such as a cassette deck) connected to the AUDIO IN jack on the front of the unit.     Editing tracks in the HDD Obtaining title information The database in this unit contains a certain amount of CD information provided by the Gracenote® Music Recognition Service. This allows you to search for titles and add them to albums or tracks whenever a CD is loaded.

    Searching for title information on the computer Connect the USB storage device (that was disconnected from the unit) to the (USB) port on your computer. Double-click [TitleUpdater.exe] in the root directory of the USB storage device. The computer starts up the “Title Updater” software.

    Other settings Using the Sleep Timer You can set the Sleep Timer to turn off the unit after a certain period on time in 10-minute units. This function is convenient when you want to fall asleep to music or when going out. Play the sound source.

    Using the Play Timer You can set the timer to automatically turn the unit on and off at a specified time. The unit starts playing the HDD, CD, FM/AM, DAB*, “WALKMAN”, or USB device automatically when it turns on. Make sure the clock is correctly set beforehand (page 22).

    Using the Recording Timer You can set the timer to automatically turn the unit on and off at a specified time. The unit starts recording a radio program or a DAB service* automatically when it turns on.     Formatting the system This function formats the unit and restores it to the condition it was in at the time of purchase. Note that this process deletes all settings and information (e.g., audio data recorded or imported in the HDD, clock setting, etc.). Factory-installed sample data (Demo Tracks) in the HDD will be deleted as well.

     Is anything blocking the ventilation holes on the back of the unit? After the STANDBY indicator stops flashing, reconnect the power cord, and turn on the unit. If the issue persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer. Power The unit does not turn on.
  • Page 63 The unit does not turn off.  The  (power) button may not respond while the unit is starting up. The STANDBY indicator remains lit even after you disconnect the power cord.  If the display is set to enter power save mode when the unit is turned off, the STANDBY indicator may remain lit for a while.
  • Page 64 While transferring audio data to a “WALKMAN” or a USB device, the entire name of a folder cannot be transferred.  For a “WALKMAN” or a USB device, the maximum size for a folder name is 128 bytes. The unit cannot play MP3 tracks. ...
  • Page 65  When the FM broadcast is received in stereo, switch the reception to monaural (page 38).  Consult your nearest Sony dealer if the supplied AM antenna has come off the plastic stand. RDS is not working.*  Make sure that you tune in an FM station.
  • Page 66 “WALKMAN” or the USB device becomes complex. Refer to the operating manual of the “WALKMAN” or the USB device for how to deal with this problem. If the problem persists, contact your nearest Sony dealer. Transferring to a “WALKMAN” or a USB device results in an error.
  • Page 67 There is no sound.  The “WALKMAN” or the USB device is not connected correctly. Turn off the unit, turn on the unit again, and then reconnect the “WALKMAN” or the USB device. Make sure that “WM-PORT” or “USB” lights up in the display. There is noise, sound skipping, or distorted sound.
  • Page 68 Timer The Play Timer or Recording Timer does not work.  Set the clock correctly (page 22).  A power failure occurred while the timer setting was in standby mode or the power cord was disconnected.  The unit is being subjected to shocks or vibrations. Place the unit at a stable location.

    However, the contents will not be backed up or saved by Sony.  If the hard disk needs to be formatted or replaced, it will be done at the discretion of Sony.

     Do not attempt to replace or upgrade the hard disk drive by yourself, as this may cause the unit to malfunction. Sony cannot provide compensation for any loss of data caused by a damaged hard disk drive.
