    Setting Up the Printer This chapter describes the setting methods and procedures, from removing it from the packing to adjusting the printing.

    1 Unpack and Make Sure You Have Everything The items below are provided with the printer. Check each item against the list below to make sure that you have everything. If any item is missing or damaged, please contact the store where you purchased the printer.

    2 Select a Location for the Printer In order to safely use this printer it must be correctly set up in spacious and well ventilated area. Space Requirements Make sure that there is sufficient space around the printer as shown below.

    Assembling the Stand The printer unit and stand set are packaged disassembled. For the W7200, or when the stand is to be used with the W7250, the stand must be assembled first. One hex driver is packed with the printer unit and another is provided with the stand.

    The printer can be placed directly on a table. Caution z The W7200 printer unit weighs 72 kg (159 lb.), and the W7250 printer unit weighs 60 kg (132 lb.). To prevent personal injury from back strain, etc., lifting the printer requires at least two people, one on either end of the printer.
  • Page 22 Save the box and all packing material. You will need these items again if you need to move or ship the printer. TSetting Up the W7200 or W7250 With the Stand The printer is placed on the stand and then attached to the stand with hex screws.
  • Page 23 Important z If the floor surface is slippery where the printer is being set up, place the slip prevention sheets (a) under the rear casters. Lift the printer by the handles on both sides, align the printer (a) with the stand (b), then place the printer on the stand.
  • Page 24 From the bottom of the stand support plate, attach and tighten two hex screws to both sides of the printer. With the embossed sides facing up, attach the leg covers to the top left and top right side of the stand.

    Installing the Output Stacker The output stacker is installed on the printer stand when the optional media take-up unit is not installed. To confirm the front and back end of the output stacker, spread the output stacker so the end with the larger area (a) is at the front and the end with the smaller area (b) is at the back.

    3 Connecting the Power Cord After setting up the printer and connecting the printer and computer, follow the procedure below to connect the power cord. On the left side of the printer, connect the power cord. Connect the power cord plug to the power source.

Remove the orange protective cap 1 (b), then while pressing in on the grips (d) on both sides as shown in the illustration, pull down to remove protective cap 2 (c).

  • Page 37 Raise the printhead lock lever and push it in until you hear it catch. Pull the carriage cover down and forward until you hear it catch. “Close Upper Cover” is displayed. Close the upper cover. “Ins. Ink Tank OK” is displayed. The lock on the right cover releases automatically and the right cover opens.
  • Page 38 Open the right cover by pulling it toward you. If something is caught on the right cover, you will not be able to open it. If you cannot open the right cover, an error is displayed. Switch the printer off, remove the obstruction, switch the printer on, then try again.

    Always install the ink tanks provided with the printer or new ink tanks in the printer. z Never break the seal on an ink tank until you are ready to install it in the printer. To prevent poor print quality, always install an ink tank immediately after breaking its seal.
  • Page 40 Always make sure that the ink tank is set in the correct direction and that the color of the tank matches the slot. If the wrong color is inserted in a slot, the ink will mix incorrectly in the tubes and printhead, causing the printer to print the wrong colors. 1-28...

    6 Selecting the Display Language The display language is set for English before the printer is shipped. Follow the procedure below to select another language. Note z If you want to continue with the English display, go to “7 Setting the Roll Media”.

    Proofing Paper — Note z Before the printer is shipped from the factory, the Roll Media Type is set for Plain Paper. z It is recommended that the special settings (1 to 5) be used when smudges and blots appear on the print density is too light while printing on one of the media types listed above.

    Setting the Printer Network Information This chapter describes the printer network settings required when the printer is connected to a TCP/IP network or used as a remote UI. These settings should be done by the network administrator or the printer manager.

    Preparing the Windows TCP/IP Function Before installing the printer driver, confirm that the functions required by the operating system have been installed. If they have not been installed, install the required functions from the operating system CD-ROM. Windows XP, Windows 2000 The operating system software required to connect to a TCP/IP network has already been installed.

    Other Software for the Printer The following software can be used with the printer. This software is on the provided User Software CD-ROM or is available on the Canon Home Page. TNetSpot Console Server software that allows you to use a Web browser to display the status of the printer from a network computer and perform the settings for the printer or the network interface board.

    During this installation procedure, do not touch a video monitor or any other type of electrical equipment that generates a strong electrostatic charge. Press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds to switch the printer off. Disconnect the power cord.
  • Page 116 Hold the IEEE 1394 expansion board by its metal frame, align it with the grooves inside the slot, then insert it. Firmly press the IEEE 1394 expansion board into the slot until the metal frame fits in the grooves completely. Use the two screws to fasten the IEEE 1394 expansion board.
