    Important safety instructions Your BenQ projector is designed and tested to meet the latest standards for safety of information technology equipment. However, to ensure safe use of this product, it is important that you follow the instructions mentioned in this manual and marked on the product.
  • Page 8 Safety instructions The lamp becomes extremely hot during operation. Allow the projector to cool for approximately 45 minutes prior to removing the lamp assembly for replacement. Do not operate lamps beyond the rated lamp life. Excessive operation of lamps beyond the rated life could cause them to break on rare occasions.
  • Page 9 Safety instructions (continued) Do not place this projector in any of the following environments. - Space that is poorly ventilated or confined. Allow at least 50 cm clearance from walls and free flow of air around the projector. - Locations where temperatures may become excessively high, such as the inside of a car with all windows rolled up.
  • Page 10 Do not place liquids near or on the projector. Liquids spilled into the projector may cause it to fail. If the projector does become wet, disconnect it from the power supply’s wall socket and call BenQ to have the projector serviced.

    Controls and functions External control panel Zoom ring (Refer to information) Adjusts the size of the projected image. Rotate clockwise to enlarge the image or rotate counter-clockwise to reduce the image size. TEMPerature warning light (Refer to Flashes red if the projector’s temperature becomes too high. POWER indicator light (Refer to Lights up or flashes when the projector is under operation.

    Remote control description Power button (Refer to information) Turns the projector on or off. When the projector is in standby, press once to turn the projector on. When the projector is on, press twice to switch the projector to standby. Freeze button The image is frozen when Freeze is pressed.

    Remote control effective range Infra-Red (IR) remote control sensors are located on the front and the back of the projector. The remote control must be held at an angle within 30 degrees of the projector’s IR remote control sensors to function correctly. The distance between the remote control and the sensors should not exceed 6 meters (~ 20 feet).

    Positioning your projector Choosing a location Your projector is designed to be installed in one of two possible installation locations: Floor in front of screen; or Floor at rear of screen Your room layout or personal preference will dictate which installation location you select. Take into consideration the size and position of your screen, the location of a suitable power outlet, as well as the location and distance between the projector and the rest of your equipment.

To connect the projector to an S-Video source device Take an appropriate S-Video cable (not supplied) and connect one end to the S-Video output socket of the Video source device.

    The start up procedure takes about 30 seconds after pressing the Power button In the later stage of start up, a default BenQ logo is projected. If the projector is still hot from previous activity, it will run the cooling fan for approximately 90 seconds before energising the lamp.

    You can also press the SOURCE button to select your desired input signal manually. For more information, please refer to If the frequency/ resolution of the input signal exceeds the projector’s operating range, you will see the message “Out of Range” displayed on a blank screen. This message will remain on-screen until you change the input signal to an appropriate source.

    Press and hold the4Right button for 5 seconds. The projector will display a coded number on the screen. Seek help from the local BenQ service center to decode the number. You may be required to provide proof of purchase documentation to verify that you are an authorized user of the projector.

    Auto-adjusting the image In some cases, you may need to optimize the picture quality. To do this, press the AUTO button. Within 3 seconds, the built-in Intelligent Auto Adjustment function will re-adjust the values of Frequency and Clock to provide the best picture quality.

    Switching input signal The projector can be connected to multiple devices at the same time. However, it can only display one at a time. To cycle through the available input sources, press the SOURCE button. A source selection menu will display at the center of the screen after you press the button.

    Using the menus The projector is equipped with on-screen display (OSD) menus for making various adjustments and settings. There are different menu languages. Before making adjustments, you may choose a suitable OSD language in Advance > Language menu. (Refer to page page 34 for more details.) The following example describes the adjustment of the keystone.

    Maintenance Care of the projector Your projector needs little maintenance. The only thing you need to do on a regular basis is to keep the lens clean. Never remove any parts of the projector except the lamp. Contact your dealer if other parts need replacing.

    Calculation of lamp hour When the projector is in operation, the duration (by hours) of lamp usage is automatically calculated by the built-in timer.     Replacing the lamp • To reduce the risk of electrical shock, always turn the projector off and disconnect the power cord before changing the lamp. • To reduce the risk of severe burns, allow the projector to cool for at least 45 minutes before replacing the lamp.

    Troubleshooting The projector does not turn on. Cause There is no power from the power cable. Attempting to turn the projector on again during the cooling process. No picture. Cause The video source is not turned on or connected correctly. The projector is not correctly connected to the input source device.
