    Getting started Telephone base installation Install the telephone base as shown below. Make sure that the electrical outlet is not controlled by a wall switch. If you subscribe to digital subscriber line (DSL) high-speed Internet service through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and telephone wall jack.

    Getting started Battery installation After you install the handset battery, the handset will prompt you to set the date and time. The handset will also prompt you to set the date and time after a power failure. For instructions, see Set date and time on page 9. To /CANCEL.

    Getting started Battery charging Once you have installed the battery, the screen indicates the battery status (see the table below). If necessary, place the handset in the telephone base to charge the battery. For best performance, keep the handset in the telephone base when not in use. The battery is fully charged after 16 hours of continuous charging.

    Getting started Handset layout CHARGE light On when the handset is charging in the telephone base (page 3). CID/VOL- Press to review the call log when the telephone is not in use (page 20). During a call, press to decrease the listening volume.

    Telephone settings LCD language The LCD language is preset to English. You can select English, French or Spanish to be used in all screen displays. To change the setting: Press MENU/ SELECT CID or Press Settings, then press CID or Press Español, then press setting.

    Telephone settings Key tone You can turn the key tone on or off. Press MENU/ SELECT Press CID or Settings, then press CID or Press Key tone, then press CID or Press /SELECT to confirm your selection. You hear a MENU confirmation tone.

    Telephone operation Chain dialing Use this feature to initiate a dialing sequence from numbers stored in the directory, call log or redial while you are on a call. Chain dialing can be useful if you wish to access other numbers (such as bank account numbers or access codes) from the directory, call log or redial list.

Each press of a particular key causes the characters to be displayed in the following order: Number space TONE When entering a name in the directory, the first letter of each word is automatically capitalized.

For example, if Linda Jones calls, her name appears as Linda if this is how you entered it into your directory.
