    • Check with the other party to make sure their fax machine is functioning properly. • Have your telephone line checked for line noise. • Try connecting the fax machine to a different telephone line. • If the problem still occurs, your fax machine may need service.

    • If the receiving machine is in manual mode with no attendant, reception will not be possible. • If the receiving machine is not a Sharp model, make sure it is G3 compatible. • Check the display for error messages.

    • If the other machine has ECM mode, make sure this feature is turned on in both fax machines (see Option Setting 9). • Make a copy or print a report on your fax machine. If the copy or report is also distorted, your fax machine may need service.

    Problems and Solutions The quality of copies is poor and/or black spots appear. Dots appear at regular intervals on received documents and copies. General problems Problem Nothing appears in the display. The machine does not respond when you press any of its keys. Automatic document feeding does not work for transmission or copying.

    Confidential reception was cancelled because the mailbox number specified by the transmitting machine is not programmed in your fax machine. The operation panel is open or the drum cartridge has not been installed. Close the cover or install the drum cartridge.
  • Page 172 A relay request has been denied because the other machine does not have a relay broadcast function, its memory is full, or it is not a Sharp machine. The SPEAKER key has been pressed and the fax machine is waiting for you to dial.

    The toner cartridge must be replaced. The received document tray is not attached. Attach it as explained in Connections in Chapter 1 (the tray must be attached for the fax machine to operate properly.) The memory has become full and scanning has stopped during scanning of a multi-page document.
