  • Page 15 1. Active Folding Phone: Closing the phone will always end your call and turn off the backlight. There are several options you can set to happen when you open the phone. When opening the phone you can: answer an incoming call. To set this option see “Answering a Call”...
  • Page 16 3. Navigation Keys: These keys allow you to scroll when viewing menus, the phonebook, browser, etc., and to move the cursor when editing any option. Also, each navigation key has a one- touch special function that it performs. Here are the one-touch special functions: In Standby or Conversation mode, press the up key to view your Phone Book (in numerical order).

You can also mute the microphone during conversa- tion by simply pressing 11. Accessories Connector: This is where you connect your charging device. It can also be used to connect optional accessories (sold separately).
  • Page 20 13. CLR Key: This key is used to erase numbers or characters you may have entered incorrectly, or to return to a previous menu or MiniBrowser screen. To erase one character from the display screen, briefly press it once. To erase all characters, hold it down for one second.
  • Page 21 16. LED Indicator: Flashes to indicate an incoming call or message. When you have the phone closed and the ringer set to off, the LED indicator will notify you that you have an incoming call or mes- sage. The LED also lights up (flashes) for a few seconds when you turn on the phone.

The Signal Strength and Battery Strength icons always appear, other icons appear based on your phone’s operating mode. Signal Strength Service Signal Strength: phone is on and shows your current signal strength. More lines indicate greater signal strength.

As soon as service is found, the indicator will disappear. Roaming: Displays when the phone is outside the home service area but within the network.

Use of any unauthorized accessories may be dangerous and will invalidate the phone warranty if the accessories cause damage or a defect to the phone.
  • Page 27 To get the quickest charge for any battery do these three things: 1. Turn the phone off. 2. Put the phone, with battery attached, into the front slot. 3. Do not put a battery in the rear slot. When two batteries are in the charger, they both charge simultaneously, but charging time increases for both batteries.
  • Page 28 Standby is the ready state of your Samsung Phone. The phone goes into Standby mode soon after you turn it on, or whenever you briefly press at any time. When your phone is in Standby mode, you will see the greeting (that’s the message displayed when you turn on your phone).
  • Page 29 Your Samsung Phone comes with a Power Save feature that will automatically be activated if your phone is unable to find a signal after 10 minutes of searching. While this feature is active, the phone’s battery charge is conserved. After the phone enters Power Save mode, it will automatically recheck for a signal about every three minutes.

Note: See your service provider about activating Call Waiting service. Call Waiting lets you receive a second call during conversation.
  • Page 37 To turn off Call Waiting on your next call: Press When you complete your call and hang up, the Call Waiting feature is automatically turned back on. To permanently turn off Call Waiting, contact your service provider. Your phone notifies you of calls that were not answered. The phone indicates a missed call by displaying a text notification on the screen.
  • Page 38 When you receive a failed call alert, cancel the call attempt and return to Standby mode by pressing then try the call again later. The Prepend option lets you add digits such as area codes, long distance access codes (for example 1 or 011), and network feature activation codes to a phone number that is in your Phone Book or Call Logs.
  • Page 39 You can place calls to 911 even if your phone is locked or outgoing calls are restricted (see “Lock Mode” on page 72). To call 911: 1. Dial 2. Press SEND Because of various transmission methods, network parameters, and user settings used to complete a call from your wireless phone, a connection cannot always be guaranteed.
  • Page 40 When you call an automated system (like a bank or voicemail “teleservice”), you are usually required to enter a password or account number. Instead of entering the numbers manually each time, you can store the numbers in your Phone Book, separated by special characters called pauses.
  • Page 41 Pause dialing from your Phone Book is easy: 1. Dial the teleservice number from your phone book in the way you prefer (use the turbo dial or scroll to it method). 2. Wait to be prompted by the teleservice for the number (credit card number, bank account number, etc.).
  • Page 42 This feature allows you to continue trying numbers that you don’t reach successfully. The phone will automatically redial a failed call until it connects. This feature is preset to “OFF” on your phone. To set the Automatic Retry feature: 1. Press to display the Main Menu.

The automatic hyphenation follows the North American Numbering Plan, which hyphenates numbers as follows: 800-555-1234 Digits following a pause are not hyphenated (see “Pause Dialing” on page 28). It’s easy to turn off this hyphenation if you want to.
  • Page 44 The tone length setting enables you to select short or long DTMF (dual-tone multi-frequency) tones. When you use a teleservice (such as your bank account or voicemail service) and press the keys to enter numbers into the teleservice, you are sending DTMF tones. The system used by the bank or other service determines if you need short or long DTMF tones.
  • Page 45 Your Samsung phone can store two NAMs (NAM stands for numerical assignment module - essentially your telephone number). This means you can have two phone numbers on your phone, and you can quickly and easily switch your service back and forth between the two numbers.

There are four choices, and they will affect your charges, so contact your service provider to determine the best roaming methods for you.   • Page 49 Your phone gives audible alerts (beeps) at certain times to inform you that certain things have happened. There are four of these beep alerts and they only occur in your earpiece so the other party does not hear them. You can turn each of these alerts off if you like.

Using the Voice- Activated Dialing option requires that you first train the phone to recognize the name of the person you are calling. Note: Voice-Activated Dialing does not work when your phone is in analog mode.
  • Page 66 Programming your phone for Voice-Activated Dialing is easy. The phone provides voice prompts and screen displays to guide you through the recording process. To program the phone for Voice-Activated Dialing, first make sure you are in a fairly quiet environment, then: 1.

You can also initiate a voice dialing call by opening the phone, when you select this option through the Main Menu. To change how a voice dialing call is activated: 1.

  • Page 80 You can associate one of 13 different ringers (4 melodies and 9 tones) to numbers stored in your Phone Book. When you receive an incoming call from a number matching an entry in your Phone Book, your phone will sound the associated ringer to announce the call.

  • Page 85 To place an outgoing call in Lock mode: To call an emergency or priority number, enter the number and then press exactly as it is stored or you will get an error message; “Priority # Dialing Only”. To place normal outgoing calls, press Lock Code screen, and then enter the lock code.

Press to save your setting. Resetting the phone erases all of your saved options and returns them to the factory default settings.

Your phone retains in non-volatile memory two lists: one list for the last 10 calls placed to your phone, and one list for the last 10 calls placed from your phone Each entry in the lists is referred to as a Call Log.
