    Choosing a location To help guarantee trouble-free operation of your machine, place it on a flat, stable surface near your workstation. Leave enough space to allow for easy paper loading, paper out and opening the front cover. Do not place your machine: - In direct sunlight.
  • Page 14 3. Unpack the toner cartridge. Grip the cartridge firmly and pull the sealing tape slowly from the cartridge. You may feel some initial resistance. As the tape will have a small amount of toner on both sides, take care not to get toner on your clothes. Remove the green cap from the right side of the cartridge.

    Loading paper into the cassette You can load approximately 250 sheets of paper in the paper cassette. The window on the front of the paper cassette shows the amount of paper currently left in the cassette. When the cassette becomes empty, the window turns into red.

    How to adjust paper guides Length guides There are two main guides and one auxiliary guide as shown below to adjust for the paper length. One of main guide is for legal, A4, or folio size, and the other is for letter (LTR), executive (EXEC), or B5 size paper. When you load letter size paper, it is recommended that you use the auxiliary guide on the upper right corner of the cassette with the appropriate main guide.

Also, use these buttons with Menu button to set up special functions or print lists. The display shows the current status of your machine and guides you through various tasks using a menu system for each operation.

    Using the number keypad As you perform various tasks, you will need to enter names and numbers. For example, when you set up your machine you enter your name (or your company’s name) and telephone number. When you use the one-touch dial or speed dial, you also enter the telephone numbers and names.

    Setting document resolution and contrast We recommend sending documents printed using a typewriter, felt tip pen, black ink, or laserprinter. The paper should be white or very light, and of normal weight not cardboard. Blue lines on a ruled pad do not fax well. When you send normal documents, you need not adjust the resolution and the contrast.

    Sending a fax automatically 1. After loading a document, enter the number of the remote fax machine using the number keypad. You can store one-touch or speed dial numbers so that you can dial your most frequently used numbers with one touch of a button or speed dial number.

    Delayed transmission You can configure your machine to send a fax at a specified time. Up to 50 delayed transmission operations can be reserved in your machine. 1.     Memory transmission (Broadcasting) With memory transmission, documents are stored in memory and automatically sent to one or more remote stations. Use this feature to send your documents to multiple locations. You can store a maximum of 25 fax numbers for a memory transmission. If you need to send your fax to more then 25 locations, you can increase the number of fax locations dialed by including a group dial number as one of the 25 numbers.

    Priority transmission When priority transmission is enabled, a high priority document can be transmitted ahead of previously scheduled operations. In this operation, the document is scanned into memory. It is immediately transmitted at the conclusion of any operation already in progress. A priority transmission interrupts a broadcast operation between stations (for example, when transmission to station A ends but before transmission to station B begins), or between redial attempts.

If the fax machine senses a fax tone, it automatically switches to fax reception mode.     Flash Some special phone services require a switch-hook signal for proper operation. For example, if you have call waiting, you can put a call on hold and take a second call on the same line by pressing the switch-hook button. Pressing Flash performs the equivalent of a switch-hook operation.

    Paper jams while the machine is printing By carefully selecting paper type and loading paper properly, you should be able to avoid most paper jams.
