  • Page 9 Before operation, gasoline must be mixed with a good quality synthetic 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40:1. Poulan/Weed Eater brand synthetic oil is recommended. A 40:1 ratio is obtained by mixing 3.2 ounces (95 ml) of oil with 1 gallon (4 liters) of unleaded gaso- line.
  • Page 10 NOTE: If the engine sounds as if it is try- ing to start before the 5th pull, stop pulling and immediately proceed to the next step. 6. Push the choke knob in completely (to the OFF position); pull the starter rope until the engine starts.
  • Page 11 S Allow the chain to cut for you. Exert only light downward pressure. If you force the cut, damage to the bar, chain, or en- gine can result. S Release the throttle trigger as soon as the cut is completed, allowing the en- gine to idle.
  • Page 12 NOTE: Before felling cut is complete, use wedges to open the cut if necessary to control the direction of fall. To avoid kickback and chain damage, use wood or plastic wedges, but never steel or iron wedges. S Be alert to signs that the tree is ready to fall: cracking sounds, widening of the fell- ing cut, or movement in the upper branches.
  • Page 13 Using a support stand LIMBING AND PRUNING WARNING: Be alert for and guard against kickback. Do not allow the moving chain to contact any other branches or objects at the nose of the guide bar when limbing or pruning. Allowing such contact can result in serious injury.
  • Page 14 AIR FILTER CAUTION : Do not clean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent to avoid creating a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora- tive emissions. Cleaning the air filter: A dirty air filter decreases engine perform- ance and increases fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
