MAINTENANCE AND LUBRICATION

Engine Oil

Always check and change the engine oil at the intervals outlined in the
Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 64. Always change the
oil filter whenever changing oil.

Premium 4 Synthetic Oil

Polaris Premium 4 All Season synthetic engine oil has been specially
formulated for use in Polaris 4-cycle engines. Polaris recommends the
use of Premium 4 in this engine, but use of any API certified "SH" oil
is allowable as long as it's 0W-40. Oil may need to be changed more
frequently if Polaris Premium 4 is not used. Follow the manufacturer's
recommendations for ambient temperature operation.
NOTE:
See page 111 for the part numbers of Polaris products.
CAUTION
Mixing brands or using a non-recommended oil may cause
serious engine damage. We recommend the use of Polaris
Premium 4 synthetic Oil or another 0W-40 API certified SH oil.
Never substitute or mix oil brands.
Oil Check
The 450/500 oil dipstick and fill
tube (1) are located on the left side of
the ATV. The 700 dipstick/oil fill (2) is
located on the engine and is accessible
on the left side of the ATV.
NOTE:
A rising oil level between
checks in cool weather driving
can indicate contaminants
such as gas or moisture
collecting in the crankcase. If
the oil level is over the
full/safe mark, change the oil
immediately.
1. Position the ATV on a level surface.
NOTE:
Do not start the 700 engine
before the oil check.
