Antenna In or 75 ohm or RF In.You will need an RF modula- tor in order to view the DVD Player at your TV. See page 10. Digital audio has the clearest sound, but you must have a digital Stereo.
IN jack on your TV. Your RF Modulator has a Channel 3/4 switch, which determines the TV chan- nel on which you will watch materials playing on the DVD Player. Set the Channel 3/4 switch to 3 or 4, whichever TV channel is least used in your area.

Connect the supplied power cord to the MAINS (AC Power) jack on the rear of the DVD Player. Plug the power cords of the Player and the TV into an active power outlet. Press POWER on the Player to turn it on.

Press POWER to turn on the DVD Player. Turn on your TV. Set it to the correct Video In channel. You should see the blue DVD screen on the TV. Press OPEN/CLOSE to release the Disc compartment lid on top of the Player. Place the Disc on the Disc hub, with the Disc label fac- ing up.
16 Remote Control Number Buttons Press to select numbered menu items. Use to play a Chapter/Title/Track. See page 19. RETURN/TITLE Button Press to go to a previous Disc menu or to access a DVD’s Title menu.These options are not available with all Discs.
Top/Front Panel 17 Disc Compartment Insert a Disc here. Load the Disc with the label facing up and the shiny side facing down. If the Disc is two-sided, make sure the label of the side you want to play is facing up. OPEN/CLOSE Press to release the Disc com- partment lid.
18 Rear Panel COAXIAL VIDEO Out (yellow) jack Connect the supplied video cable (yellow) here and to the TV’s Video In jack. See page 11. Or, connect this jack to an RF modulator (not supplied) if your TV does not have a Video In jack.
Title/Disc Menus, Chapter/Track Selection 19 Title/Disc menus Press DISC MENU during DVD play. The main Disc menu (or Root menu) will appear. These menus vary among DVDs, depending on the features on the Disc. Or, if the current Title has a specific Title menu, press RETURN/TITLE to access the Title menu.
20 Smart Play, Virtual Remote Smart Play Some DVDs start play with movie previews, adver- tisements, or other theatrical trailers.To skip these and play the main feature, use Smart Play. During Disc play, press and hold the Next ¢ button for two seconds. SMART PLAY will appear briefly in the top left corner of the TV screen.
Slow Motion During DVD or Video CD play, press 4 to play the Disc forward at 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16 the normal speed. Press 3 to play a DVD backward at 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, or 1/16 the normal speed. Slow reverse is not possible on Video CDs.
22 Still Picture, Time Search Still Picture Press PAUSE DVD or Video CD picture. Press PAUSE still picture one frame at a time. Press PLAY to resume regular play. Time Search Press DISPLAY during DVD or Video CD play to see the Display information on the TV. Press p repeatedly to select TIME DISP.
Zoom/Reduce You can reduce or enlarge the picture during play. Press ZOOM repeatedly during Disc play to make the picture two, three, or four times larger. Or, keep pressing ZOOM to reduce the picture to 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4 its normal size. Press 341 2 to move around in the enlarged picture.
24 Repeat/Shuffle, Repeat A-B Repeat/Shuffle You may play a Chapter,Track,Title, or Disc repeatedly. During play, press REPEAT to choose a Repeat option. Depending on the Disc, you may choose Chapter, Track,Title, or Disc (ALL). Or, continue to press REPEAT to choose SHUFFLE or SHUFFLE REPEAT.
Some DVDs are recorded in multiple languages. Choose the language you want to hear by adjusting AUDIO. The easiest way to choose a different language is to press AUDIO on the remote during DVD play. Press STOP twice to stop play. Press SYSTEM MENU.
26 Subtitles Some DVDs include subtitles.The easiest way to choose subtitles is to press SUBTITLE on the remote repeatedly during play. Press STOP twice to stop DVD play. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 repeatedly to select the PREFER- ENCE PAGE, then press OK. You can select PREFERENCE PAGE only if you have completely stopped DVD play by pressing STOP twice as directed in step 1.
DVDs have a Disc menu that lets you select fea- tures. Features vary among DVDs, so the menus are different for every DVD. Disc menus may be available in multiple languages. To choose a language, follow these steps. Press STOP twice to stop play. Press SYSTEM MENU.

Not all DVDs are rated or coded by the Disc maker.You can specifically lock or unlock a DVD, regardless of its rating. If you lock a specific DVD, you must enter your password before you can watch the DVD. See page 28. Press SYSTEM MENU.
30 Parental Levels The Player can block or play a DVD based on its rating. Some DVDs let you enter your password to play a Disc. If not, remove the DVD, then change the PARENTAL setting so you can watch the Disc. Not all DVDs conform to the levels you select, as not all DVDs are coded or protected by the manu- facturer.
To play Tracks or Chapters in an order you specify, set up a Program by following these steps. Press SYSTEM MENU. The GENERAL SETUP PAGE will be selected. Press OK. Press 4 to select PROGRAM. Press 2 to select INPUT MENU, then press OK.

34 JPEG and MP3 Features General Information on CD-R and CD-RWs When you make CDs, the Disc should have at least 6-10 pictures or 2-3 MP3 music files. Make sure there are at least 3 MB (three megabytes) of information on the Disc.The maximum files per folder is 500.

36 Smart Picture, Picture Setting Just as you can adjust your picture on your TV, you can adjust some picture elements at the DVD Player. Choose a Smart Picture setting that best dis- plays the Disc you are playing. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 to select the VIDEO SETUP PAGE.

PAL-compatible and your DVDs are recorded in PAL. Choose MULTI if your TV is compatible with both NTSC and PAL and you want the DVD Player to automatically select the color system of the current DVD. Press SYSTEM MENU to remove the menus.
If you connected the Player to a TV using the Y Pb Pr jacks and your TV has Progressive Scan, set PRO- GRESSIVE to ON. This provides the best picture. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 to select the VIDEO SETUP PAGE, then press OK.
40 Analog Output Use ANALOG AUDIO SETUP to adjust some of the Player’s audio settings. Adjust DOWNMIX according to how you connected the Player to your TV and/or Stereo. Balance the vol- ume during playback by adjusting Dynamic Range Control (D.R.C.). Press SYSTEM MENU.
If you connected the Player to a Stereo using the COAXIAL jack as shown on page 14, adjust DIGI- TAL OUTPUT (audio) as described below. If you are not using the COAXIAL jack, no adjustment is necessary. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 to select the AUDIO SETUP PAGE, then press OK.
42 LPCM Output If you connected the Player to a Stereo using the COAXIAL jack as shown on page 14, adjust LPCM OUTPUT. Discs are recorded in a certain sampling rate. The higher the sampling rate, the better the sound quali- ty.
Select the sound mode that matches the type of music you play most often.These preset sound modes adjust the frequency bands of the audio to enhance your favorite music style. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 to select the AUDIO SETUP PAGE, then press OK.
44 3D Sound During music playback, this feature simulates echoes and frequencies that may be available in a particular environment. Choose the environment that you would like to recreate by changing the 3D SOUND setting. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 to select the AUDIO SETUP PAGE, then press OK.

The Screen Saver is the moving DVD logo that appears on your TV screen when Disc play is stopped. It prevents damage to your TV screen caused by leaving a still image on the TV too long. Press SYSTEM MENU. The GENERAL SETUP PAGE will be selected.
48 Defaults To restore the original settings of the DVD Player, follow the steps below. Press STOP twice to stop Disc play com- pletely. Press SYSTEM MENU. Press 2 repeatedly to select the PREFER- ENCE PAGE, then press OK. Press 4 repeatedly to select DEFAULT.
Title: A unit of recording on a DVD. VCD: Video Compact Disc. VIDEO Out Jack: Yellow jack on the rear of the DVD Player that sends video (picture) to a TV. Widescreen: A TV aspect ratio setting (16:9). Displays the video appropriately when you connect the DVD Player to a widescreen TV.
• TVs have a color system standard, usually NTSC in the United States. If the Disc’s or DVD Player’s color system is different than your TV’s color system, the picture may be distorted or colorless. Set the Player’s TV TYPE to match your TV and your DVDs.
• Check the Region Code of the DVD.The DVD must be coded for All regions or Region 1 in order to play on this DVD Player. See page 7. • See if the Disc is defective by trying another Disc. Make sure the Disc is not scratched or warped.
